I have been thinking that the Holidays will be here before we know it and I want to get my kids involved in a Service Project. This is Perfect cause it is Simple enough for them to get involved. When your in the Service of your fellow being your in the Service of your Lord. I think this will make a lasting impression on them and I know we will have happy memories because of it. I hope you will join me. I am teaming up with friends, family and even my Primary children, to help fill a desperate need for homemade cards and blankets for the Ronald McDonald house. Most parents with sick children can not afford to go to the gift shop to buy a gift for their child. Your cards would allow them to cheer up their children often during their stay. Most children are in ICU rooms....which means they don't allow flowers and balloons; however, they do allow cards :)
The houses also need little blankets to give each child when they arrive. The blanket goes home with the child when they leave the house after recovering from their hospital stay.This particular project will Start Today, and go through the month of October as we will be moving Most likely in November. So how will it work exactly? Let me explain....Organize a group of family or friends and create some cards and/or blankets. You could also do this as a Relief Society, Young Women group or as a Primary activity, Young Single Adults, girl scouts, Activity Days, school, etc., etc.... You could set up a date that you and your friends get together and make cards or blankets, turn up the music and get creative. Now I can hear some of you now.... "But I don't know how to sew....." or "I don't do cards." Just do the best you can. If you don't feel that is something you can do, consider donating the supplies necessary to someone who can. When you are ready to turn in your donations, you can either.....1st option - Take them to your local Ronald McDonald house and save yourself the postage. Now if you are asking yourself, "Where do I take my donation? Where is the closest location?" CLICK HERE to find the address of the closest Ronald McDonald house. They are located in 52 countries around the world.2ND option - I will be keeping a update let you know how many cards and blankets have been donated. PLEASE....if you donate your materials directly to your local Ronald McDonald house (e-mail me and let me know how many cards and/or how many blankets you provided. That way your efforts can be included in our totals. Please title the subject line (in your e-mail) as Fall Service Project. THANKS!.
Q & A: Do the cards have to be homemade? - Hand crafted please. The hand crafted ones always get used up first.
Q & A: Are there specifications on the blankets? - Nope. Any size or kind is great, new or in like-new condition. They can be any color, style, size, etc. They are given to newborns up to age sixteen. For those of you who don't sew, fleece blankets are very easy to make. Just buy enough fleece to make a blanket and tie the edges. Plus they are very warm and soft.
Q & A: Is there a particular sentiment you are looking for on these cards? - Anything along the lines of “I love you” or “Feel better soon” or “Thinking of you”….. ' );
Q & A: When you have finished your projects you can deliver them to my house or I will pick them up for you. Then I will Deliver them to the Ronald McDonald House. Please let me know the number of cards and blankets you made even if you don't have me deliver them so I can have a Grand Total of all the cards and Blankets Made.
Any Other Q... Please ask I'll do my best to answer them!
I am VERY EXCITED about this look forward to the challenge and hope you will join in the Fun! I will be holding a Party where we can get together and make cards and blankets eat some yummy food, talk and enjoy being of Service.... Date and Time will be announced Soon. Those of you Out of State Buy your tickets and feel free to come join us! (I Wish!) You can make your own cards and Blankets and Deliver them to your local Ronald McDonald House. If any of you who make cards and blankets here in Florida and would be interested in going to Deliver them with us you are invited. We could go out for Ice Cream after wards..? Something to think about. If you are interested let me know and we can nail down a date that works for all of us. Thank You!
Happy Service!

This is so cool, Miles was in and out of the hospital his first year, and each time we were sent home with a blanket, I tell you those blankets are prescious to me as a mother. He spent a total of 52 days in the hospital, my goal at one time was to donate 52 blankets, I think I made it to twenty something, this makes me want to jump back on the fleece tying band wagon, and yes, kids can do those they are so easy.
I just love this idea. I can't wait to get start! I just know the primary kids will LOVE serving in this way. You are so sweet and have the best heart. And we would love to go with you to deliver everything and then go out for ice cream! Sounds fun and yummy!
I love you ! Thank you for the great Idea and for reminding us all that it is the best season of all for service! Service to others is great everyday of the year but I have to confess I love to serve others even more around the Holidays. What a wonderful way to remind us all how truly blessed we really are. Thanks for being so great kelly!
Kelly your goodness continues to shine through with every post. I am impressed. Me and my girlies can get on some card making- you know my sewing skills. The Thompsons are good people and we love you!!!!!!
Kelly what a gift! Last night I read in the paper about our neighbor who bought a partnership in David's cabin. He is doing so much for children in Indonesia. My heart wanted to do something and I layed in bed last night and this morning trying to figure out what???? Then Wha La I jump on your blog and there you are with a fantastic idea. It is the people right around us all the time that need us. Christmas will be so much better now!!! In fact when we built Wallsburg I always imagined us getting together to make home made Christmas's. Millers and Clarks could we have a sleep over to work some magic? October 9th, 16th, 23rd, or 30th? We could go visit a Ronald McDonald House. Thank you Kelly. I know I love you!
Thats so great. I saw this service project on Sugardoodle and thought it would be so great to join in. Perhaps I can get our YW in on it.
